IMMIGRANT PATHWAY Institute

IMMIGRANT PATHWAY Institute 2012 is happening now!

What Is IPI?

Do you want to make a tangible, life-long impact on the lives of immigrants? IMMIGRANT PATHWAY Institute is a 40-hour Basic Immigration Law training offered in collaboration by Immigrant Hope and World Relief. This class will survey a wide range of topics in immigration law, including naturalization, family-based visas, admissibility and deportability issues, and legal ethics and practice.

The Immigration System & BIA Accreditation

Every immigrant hoping to live in the United States legally must pass through the complex, daunting immigration legal system. Learning about immigration law can give you an insight into the lives of the immigrants around you, awareness of how best to support and help them, and a new perspective on important national policy issues.

Learning the basics of immigration law is also the first step toward gaining Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) accreditation, the government certification that allows non-attorneys to practice immigration law. Earning BIA accreditation will allow you to expand the scope of services offered by your church or non-profit agency. For more information on BIA recognition and accreditation, check out this Toolkit* offered by the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC), or contact Ben Johnson.

Who Can Attend IPI?

IMMIGRANT PATHWAY Institute is offered by and designed to serve Christian faith-based organizations, but all are welcome to attend and should benefit from the training. The course will touch on all areas of immigration law and practice, but will focus on topics most relevant to those serving and representing low-income immigrants.  Class sessions will be taught at a college level.

Seminary Credit from TIU

You can earn seminary credits from Trinity International University for attending IMMIGRANT PATHWAY Institute.  “Immigration Advocacy and the Local Church” is a 3 credit class supervised by Dr. Alejandro Mandes, the Executive Director of Immigrant Hope.  Attending IMMIGRANT PATHWAY Institute is the core of the class.  Additional requirements include reading before and after IPI, participation in discussion sessions on the intersection of immigration and faith, and a final paper.  Additional fees also apply.  A syllabus is available upon request.  Contact Immigrant Hope for more information.
